The Flatland Oscillators - #2ABC/Spine pt2
After playing around with a bunch of solo projects of various stripes, I got the urge to explore some ensemble music. So I put a classified ad in the once-upon-a-time essential Village Voice and the FLO was born. This group was ever mutating over the course of the next couple of years, but each iteration included very cool players from many different scenes. Most of us were just getting our feet wet in NYC and it was nothing special to get 10 or more people to rehearse and play for really no $$ in galleries, performance spaces, churches, and the few avant-leaning clubs that existed at the time. My writing at the time veered between atonal/melodic equal temperament and some nascent microtonal drone/acoustical phenomena experiments.
